BreedLOGIC Database Search provides multiple search methods to suit different users and search requirements. Whether you are looking for a specific animal, exploring a group of animals that meet certain criteria, or searching using natural language, BreedLOGIC offers a range of tools to help you find the information you need.
This guide explains the four available search options and how they can be used effectively.
UNDERSTANDING SEARCH RESULT COUNTS
One of the key advantages of BreedLOGIC Database Search is that all search methods display the number of matching records before a search is executed.
As search criteria are added or adjusted, BreedLOGIC automatically displays the number of records that match your current search criteria. This allows you to quickly assess and refine your search criteria before running the search.
QUICK SEARCH
Quick Search is the fastest way to find information within BreedLOGIC Database Search.
Located at the top of the screen (Figure 1), Quick Search allows you to search using a name or identifier. Quick Search is ideal when you already know some information about the animal or member you are looking for and want to access the record quickly.
BreedLOGIC also supports wildcard searching to help refine partial matches. Both % and ***** can be used interchangeably:
- AB% – returns records that start with AB
- %AB% – returns records that contain AB anywhere
- %AB – returns records that end with AB
Without using wildcards, BreedLOGIC automatically performs a partial search across both names and idents, making it easy to find records when only part of a name or identifier is known.
Wildcards can also be used within Basic Search and Advanced Search fields, providing a flexible way to locate records when only part of a name, ident or other search value is known.
BASIC SEARCH
Basic Search provides access to a simple, easy-to-use search format. It has been designed to replicate the search fields previously available within Internet Solutions, making it familiar, quick and intuitive for existing users while providing a modern interface and additional capabilities.
Basic Search is accessed through the Filter button located to the right of the Quick Search bar (Figure 1) and, for animal searches, is divided into two tabs.
- Animal Details
The Animal Details tab contains commonly used search fields for animal enquiries, including animal name, registration number, ident, sire, dam, sex, registration status, genetic conditions (where available), location, owner and breeder information.
In the example shown below, the user is searching for male animals with "Spyglass" in their name, returning 626 results.
- Genetic Evaluation
For breed societies that publish genetic evaluations, a second EBVs and Indexes tab provides access to genetic evaluation search criteria. Depending on the breed society, this tab may also be labelled EPDs, ABVs or ASBVs.
Users can search using individual genetic evaluation traits and selection indexes by specifying minimum and/or maximum values for one or more criteria.
A major new feature within BreedLOGIC is the ability to search using Percentiles. Users can search above a specified percentile threshold (e.g. the Top 25% of the breed) or combine minimum and maximum percentile filters to identify animals within a specific percentile range. This is particularly useful for traits where an optimal range may be more desirable than simply selecting the highest values (e.g. BREEDPLAN Milk EBVs).
A visual percentile bar helps users understand the position of selected animals within the breed
distribution. In the example shown below, the user is searching for male calves born in 2024 with a Central Production Index in the Top 25% of the breed or higher, returning 399 results.
ADVANCED SEARCH
Advanced Search allows users to build highly targeted searches using multiple and/or filters. Multiple animal, member and genetic evaluation criteria can be combined within a single search to create highly specific selection parameters.
As with Quick Search and Basic Search, wildcard searching is also supported within relevant Advanced Search fields.
AI-ASSISTED SEARCH
AI-Assisted Search allows users to search using natural language questions and descriptions rather than traditional search fields. For example, you may ask to view all 2024 drop Spyglass bulls. This conversational search approach can be useful when exploring the database or refining search criteria.
To use AI-Assisted Search:

Sign in to your BreedLOGIC account.

Enable AI Search within Account > Settings.

Click the Search icon within the Quick Search bar to switch to AI-Assisted Search mode.
